How DW C&T uses contacts

Hello everyone, if I'm not wrong, DW C&T doesn't have an its own database of the contacts. It may be configured instead to use the contacts of the differents accounts.
If it's right,I would like to know if some of information (i.e. birthday, group etc), added to a certain contact via DW C&T is stored into a separate database or wherever else. I'm interested about it in order to backup and restore my contacts before and after a restore of the system of my smartphone.
