An EVENT more than 1 year in the future.

Post by pollensa1946 »

I have entered an EVENT for June 2016, but it shows in the EVENT list for June 2015. I go into EDIT EVENT and that display shows correctly as 2016.
I can understand this being correct for a Birthday or Anniversary but this is a custom label event.

Hello pollensa1946
I think if the time is set to a future time (next year). We avoid it appears in the list.
How do you feel?

If you exclude events after 2015 from the list then there is no point in the user entering that event. How does the user browse the full list of events he/she has entered?

The present system shows the remaining events for 2014 and those that are coming in 2015. Including at this time an event wrongly shown as being in 2015. The date on the 2nd line shows the correct date, that on the 3rd line is where it appears on the list...

Contact A
Event name: 11 Jun 2016 (-1)
Thu, 11 Jun 2015 - in 5 months

For those that are labelled Birthdays and Anniversaries it is natural that when the 2014 date rolls over from 2014 to 2015 and after that event will move from being displayed in 2014 to being in 2015 and so on. I can't remember whether you have coded that to happen automatically or whether I have been adjusting it manually?
That system works well and I am happy with it. For any other custom label I would assume it is non-recurring and would expect to see it in chronological order, regardless of year. So the list would show...

All remaining events in 2014
All events in 2015 (Birthdays and Anniversaries rolled over from 2014)
All events in 2016 (except Birthdays and Anniversaries)
All events in the future (except Birthdays and Anniversaries)

So in the case being discussed of Contact A, if I put an event in 2016 I would expect to see it at the end of my Events List. Followed by any events I have put in 2017 etc...

Contact A
Event name: 11 Jun 2016 (-1)
Thu, 11 Jun 2016 - in 16 months

I have some events related to contacts that are 4 and 5 years from now.

This seems natural and fairly simple, it avoids you turning the Events List into a full capability Calendar List but shows events correctly. You may have to place some restriction on the allowed size of the Events List. One user might have 20 events each year for the next 10 years = 200 events max. Another might have 50 events per year for the next 4 years = 200 events max.

I hope this helps.

But there is another problem. Maybe some users to use custom label to save birthdays, or other periodic nature of the event.
You do not have to use a calendar program? It may be more suitable for this function.

Yes, a Calendar program that could summarise all future events in date order would be good. I'm looking for one now. The problem I see in all of the Calendar apps I've looked at is when using the Agenda listing any Events lasting multiple days are shown in the list as multiple events. So an event lasting 10 days is shown as 10 separate events rather than the ideal (in my view) of showing a single event with a sub-text "10 days".
Anyone with advice is welcome.

Thanks for your attention to this.

This appears to be an event you set the length of 10 days, you can edit it.

I could put the event in as a 1 day event with a note that it actually lasts 10 days. Then my calendar shows as open for the next 9 days which is not good since it is synced across several devices/people. Leading those people to think I am free/available. I'm in touch with the author of Business Calendar app whom I have asked if he would consider some changes to accommodate my request.
Thanks.

Calendars should be private. Because you put them in the "Invite List" yet?

I'm referring to my business calendar which is shared amongst the other partners. As is theirs with me.

I do have a private calendar and I have organised that in a way that the Agenda list fits the template I want. It's my shared calendar that is the problem. Your DWP Agenda list fitted what I wanted until I found the problem that opened this thread. Still working on a solution.
Thanks.

No issues or problems with DWP. I have a calendar app solution for my private calendar and am working on getting a calendar solution for my business calendar. All is good.
