"Prompt before exit" bug
"Prompt before exit" bug
Hi DWP,
I've noticed that the "Prompt before exit" function doesn't work sometimes. I have noticed it many times. Initially, I thought I must have inadvertently tapped twice and not noticed, but now I'm sure it's a real bug.
I think it's related to the problem where the Android Menu button doesn't work when DWC is first started (per earlier post: viewtopic.php?t=2524#p3830).
It always happens if you set "Prompt before exit" to On, then restart DWC. If you immediately tap Return, DWC exits, without Prompting.
In this case, it seems to be related to the Menu button initially not working bug.
If you then select another Tab, the Menu button starts to work (as per earlier post), and the "Prompt before exit" option now works too.
It must be that everytime I have noticed it in the field (usually, in the car or somewhere when I'm too busy to worry about it), it's because I have never changed from the Startup Tab.
Maybe this linkage will help you find the bug?
Cheers,
Al

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hello AICan,
Thank you for your feedback.
I already know the problem is because the contents of TAB sometimes not have the correct access to the focus.
Led to these failures.
I'm trying to correct it.

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi DWP,
If it's any help, I believe the problem only appeared in V2.1.3. I certainly never noticed it before that, and I'm sure I would have.
So maybe you can see what code has been changed in 2.1.3?
Cheers,

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
In previous versions, I also encountered this fault.
It rarely happens, are in the current version and previous versions.
I only met less than 5 times.
So I did not take it seriously.
I also can not reproduce the error, it is difficult to repair.
I will try.

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi dwp,
Just to confirm, the problem is still the same in 2.1.4-pro.
On my Defy (Android 2.2.2), it's very easy to replicate.
With "Prompt before exit" turned ON (Enabled), just:
1: Start DWC.
2: Press the Android Return button.
DWC will close immediately = not the correct result.
Now, try this:
1: Start DWC again, then select a different Tab.
2: Press the Android Return button.
3: Note that you now get the "Press return again to exit." prompt, as it should be.
Does anyone else, on different platforms and Android versions, get the same fault? Or am I just special!
Any reports would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Al

I would be concerned about this issue.
I have just tested in Android 2.2 virtual machine and found no problems.

Hi dwp,
Oh well. Thanks for trying. I have no explanation for this. It just happens on my phone. I may try the demo version on another identical phone and see if it's the same.

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hello All,
This bug, and the Android Menu button bug, are now being discussed under this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2524
It seems that these two bugs may be just different aspects of the same bug. I have confirmed that the problem can be saved to the Settings Backup file. When Defaults are restored, the faults go away. When the Backup is restored, the faults come back...
I now suspect that there's some bug in the DWC initialization code, that causes initialization to be incorrect or incomplete if a certain option or combination of options is selected. But I have no idea which option(s)... My DWP is very heavily re-configured - I change many options to get what I like...
Hopefully, Camel & the guys will sort it out!
Cheers,
Al

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
well, if the bug is gone after a reset of settings, maybe it is a bug of old settings.
a lot of settings are changed from older version to newer, a lot of them are maybe not good to read ...
cu camel
if it happens also after a reset the settings (on the same version) - please let us know...

Hi Camel,
Too bad. That's a bit of work. I have changed a lot of settings...
Do you have a list of all the Settings that you could send me, please? Then I can just fill in the data, rather than have to write up the whole list.
Or maybe I'll take a look at the XML file.

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi Camel,
Ok. I did as you asked.
I Reset my DWC to Default settings.
I did a preliminary new setup - I didn't go through and change everything, just many of my most important settings.
Then I tested the two bugs.
BOTH bugs are back already. The symptoms are exactly as before. (I also still get the program debug messages detailed previously ...)
It is therefore not caused by Old version, incompatible settings. These are real, latest version bugs.
I will have a little play and see if I can tell you which settings cause it.

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi Camel,
OK. HERE IT IS - HOW TO REPLICATE "Prompt before Exit" and "No Android Menu button function" BUGS:
This may also demonstrate that "Restore default settings" does not actually work properly. It seems to be the case on my phone.
I suggest you start with all Default Settings...
1. Go to Settings | Tab settings.
2. Choose "Activate & Sort". Move "Contacts" to First on the list. Move "Organizations" to second. Exit "Activate & Sort".
3. Change "Default Tab" to "Organizations". Exit "Tab settings".
4. Go to "Global settings".
5. Enable "Prompt before exit".
6. Press Android Return button several times to Exit DWC.
7. Note that already, "Prompt before exit" is not working.
8. Restart DWC.
9. Press the Android Menu button - see that you now get the program debug messages.
10. Press the Android Menu button again. See different sequence of debug messages.
11. Press "Contacts" tab.
12. Press the Android Menu button again. Now see that Android Menu button is now working.
13. Press Return to Exit once - see that Prompt before Exit is now working.
14. Exit & Restart DWC.
15. Press Return button to exit DWC.
16. See that DWC exits immediately, without first Prompting as per setting.
17. Restart DWC.
18. Change to any other Tab.
19. Go to Settings | Backup & Restore | Restore default settings
20. Now go to Settings | Tab settings | Activate & Sort
21. Note that the Tab order has not been restored to Default.
22. Exit DWC
23. Repeat steps 17, 18, 20, 21.
24. See that Tab Order is still not restored to Default. It is possible to get the Tab order to restore to default, but I don't know the sequence.
End of Demo
Looking forward to V2.1.5!

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi dwp,
Tried it, thanks.
Yes, the two bugs are fixed, though I couldn't set the different Tab views to get rid of the contact icons. Not sure if I missed the setting.
But my Saved settings still worked so things looked almost correct, except that a lot of the contact details colours were wrong.
Anyway, the main thing is that the Prompt to Exit and Menu button not working bugs are both fixed.
Well Done!
And thanks!

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
P.S.
I notice the new Tab icons - but I have to say, I don't like the new Groups icon. It breaks the tradition of simple, easy to see icons. It's too complex, too hard to make out. To me, it looks more like a badly made hamburger than a Groups symbol.
I much prefer the existing icon. If I was to suggest any improvement, it would only be to make the line that outlines the first "person" against the second, a bit heavier, so it's easier to make out. Possibly, the back "person" could be moved slightly back (above) the front one, but I wouldn't make it any more complex than that. The current one works well for me.
Cheers,
Al

Hi dwp,
Yes, that's very much like what I mean. The back outline could possibly be a little higher, but it doesn't need to be.
Still in black and white though, like the existing icons?
Don't you think that looks much simpler and easier to see? Bearing in mind that many of us (me included) still have small screens. I'll probably never go to a large screen because of the nature of my work. A large screen is going to be too fragile...
Best regards,
AlCan

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi dwp,
If you really want to change the icon, you might like to try adding a third "person" behind the second, (also on the right) but that might be too much as well. But it would probably convey the Groups meaning more effectively. (Bearing in mind that the Label Text is too hard for me to read because it's small and lacks contrast, so I turn it off.)
It's just that the first revision was too hard to make out, because the back people where smaller, and too "jammed" (or crowded) around the foreground figure, so it wasn't easily recognisable.
ONE OTHER THING:
When I installed the 2.1.5 test version, I had both versions installed. But when I went back to using 2.1.4 (with 2.1.5test still installed), after making a call, my screen would not revert to normal. I had the status bar at the top, but the rest of the screen stayed black. I had to power off each time to fix it. After I uninstalled 2.1.5test, it went back to normal. I don't know if this is just because there were two versions installed, or could it be that the Bug Fix has created this problem instead?
Best regards,
A

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
A strange fault.
I modified the incoming view in 2.1.5.
It will continue to display until the call ends.
You can also manually turn it off if you do not lock its position.
Does it affect?

Re: "Prompt before exit" bug
Hi dwp,
Not sure yet. Just installed latest release 2.1.5, don't really want to go back to the Test version.
The problem only happened when making Outgoing calls. When I ended the call, the body of the screen stayed black. I couldn't get it to go back to normal. No icons visible, etc. Just the status bar. Had to power off.
But I thought it was probably a conflict due to having both versions installed. Maybe they were both trying to run the Background service and so they clashed.
Thanks for new version. No sign of the PBE or NAM bugs, I like the new Phone Calls Filter bar, but I'm not sure what the left end icon is supposed to be! I guess it means All but it's hard to say what it is! Also haven't figured out what the "No Go" icon does. When I tap it, I get two contacts listed, with No Go symbols beside them. Haven't figured that out...
Anyway, I will have a play and see if there is anything to report!
Cheers,
Al

Hi AI
May be other applications cause a malfunction.
Three versions installed on my phone at the same time.
But did not have this problem.
Yes, the left-most button on all records. The rightmost blocked calls. When you use the DWC call filter to intercept calls.
