Would it be possible to create hidden contacts or password protect certain contacts. Not sure if this is a feature that everyone would be on board with, but for me would be a useful option.

android does not support such kind of fields.
but you can hide groups in DWC (on tab groups)
also you can disable in "contact display filter".
but to really hide your girl-firend to be sure against for wife.
please lock your device. there are several apps for it
DWC is not an app for security.
PS: if DWC would support or handle it -> you would see the contacts with stock dialer or stock contacts as well - so it makes no sense.
