Global settings\Show contact as=Nickname destroys sort order

On my phone (Xperia Ray, Android 2.3.4, system language = Polish, DW language = Polish or English, Contact Editor Pro) setting Global settings\Show contact as to "Nickname" destroys sort order completely.
Not all of my contacts have nickname however my understanding is when there is no nickname then system default fields should be used for sorting. The way it is now, however, the sort order is completely out of order - see attachment.
