In the previous version I used to select Search as a default tab, now I can't do that. It was fast and convenient for me to start searching as soon as get to the program. Any hint or help please!

It is still work in the new version
First make sure the search TAB has been shown.
And then set it to default.
So that only use the contact icon to start the work.
If you want to through dial-up icon to start the work.
Need to open
Settings -> Tab settings -> Always start with default tab

also - please take care, that the tab is activated (because you can setup, which tabs are visible/hidden.
(see settings -> tab settings -> "activate & sort"

also you can make a special LINK to home screen, which refer directly to "search"
therfore go to tab "toolbox" -> "long click" on "search", then seelct there: "create a link on home screen"

Hello DWP team,

I want to reopen this topic because I'm quite sure in the latest version this is no longer possible: "search" is no longer a tab...

is there any way for the search to be automatically open when I start DP?

personally i never use it without search (I never scroll).

hopefully there is a way, its terrible when "upgrades" loose useful features.

In the new version, has added a widget to quickly start the search.

How do I open DW on the search mode with keyboard - this was there on last version before I updated.
there is no search on tab to default open with.

Yes, a widget. Name: DW Contacts & Phone.
It contains four buttons.

is there a way to have the screen open to search without the widget-this was the case before the last update

That requires more than a single click. Start DWC to the contact list, then click the Search button. Or click "Contact" TAB button.

First, thanks for all the hard work, including the "widget" (thanks for the reply about it before).

I've been re-configuring my phone, and I figured out I can customize the "always showing" icons on the bottom of the screen too... however, this will not work for the widget.

I'm not an Android programer, so I don't know if its because its a widget larger than 1x1 (although even if I shrink it to 1x1, it will not go there), or if only certain types of icons can go into the bottom 4 locations.

So, any chance there can be a "1x1 search widget" that can get placed in this bottom row? (In addition to the 1x4 current widget)

As before, I always use the "search" for contacts (over 500), and I've kept using DW because it is way better than almost anything... but now that I found I can make it even better, I thought I'd ask.

You can create a shortcut.
Toolbox TAB -> Create Shortcut -> Search
