I just loaded this app and I have been trying to figure out; How do i assign a contact to a group?

If you only need to modify a single contact.
Find the contact in the contact list.
Hold it
In the pop-up menu, select "Set group for contact"

there are several ways ....
if you want to add multiple contacts to a group: easiest way:
go to tab "contacts" -> change to mode: multi select mode -> then select all your wanted contacts, and then "long press" - there use "set group fro contacts", then you can select the group what you like.

the special hint is here:

select your wanted contacts -> then do a "long click" on the items, and then you will get a menu, where you can choose whatever you like
