After a search I found this new option in... Long press group/Edit Group/Automatically delete call logs. I cannot find it anywhere else.
I am confused. There is no selection for this option, does that mean it is always ON? How do you switch it ON/OFF for a group? Please explain this option.

It is a check box in the Group Editor. It is off by default for all groups. You can configure for each group separately.

That's the problem. In my Android 4.4.4 there is no check-box displayed. It is the same for the option below... "Hide (Do not show this group)".
By experimenting I can see that the Hide option does work ON/OFF by simply tapping the option, but there is no check box displayed. So for both options it is not possible to simply see if they are ON or OFF.

Strange in my device, 4.4.2 and 5.0. Where are they. can you open the display layout boundary in the debug option?

There is no selection for this option for me on version 2.9.1.3 . My phone is note 4 kit kat version android
