SMS Messages - Cannot change background from white to any other color and/or cannot use photo

Please help!!! This us driving me CRAZY. My UI is all dark mode. My messages background is stark white and I as yet have been unable to figure out how to get it changed. Just black or dark grey would be great. I love this app, but if this feature is not available or is not coming available shortly, it is going to be a deal breaker for me unfortunately.

Hello there
Have you updated to the latest version? In the latest version it will be the same color as the contact list.
