mp3 for ringtone forbidden?

When I choose "ringtone for all shown contacts" and try to choose an mp3, it tells me: wrong type of file.
So: Is it not possible, to choose a mp3 for general ringtone?

Some devices have restrictions on file types for general ringtones. Check your device's specifications or use a file converter to change the format if needed.
