Icoming SMS assigned to wrong contact

I have a strange problem that an incoming SMS from person A is assigned to the wrong contact person B in my address book. Responding to the SMS send the message to the wrong contact B, too. I double-checked the numbers, and they are correct and different from each other for persons A and B.
Any idea what the problem might be?
